Vera Mae Norfleet, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on February 27, 1928, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Corine Smith-Griffin and Charles P. Searcy. Vera’s journey through life took her to Chicago, Illinois, where she married her first husband, Cecil M. Brewer. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Sherry Brewer-Bronfman, Cecil Brewer Jr., and Terrance Brewer.
A talented seamstress and clothing maker, Vera was known for her incredible skill in crafting outfits and dresses not only for her children but for the entire neighborhood. She also belonged to CJMA (Cleo Johnson Mannequin Association). Her creativity extended to her long tenure with the Singer Corporation, where her passion for fashion flourished.
In her later years, Vera moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to be close to her son, Cecil Brewer. She embraced life with a vibrant spirit, characterized by her infectious laughter and rich life experiences that she generously shared with those around her. Vera cherished her time with her granddaughter, Carla, enjoying field trips to Culver’s, getting her nails painted, and working on puzzles together.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Sherry Brewer-Bronfman, and her stepdaughter, Cecilia Brewer. Her cherished grandchildren include Carla Ramos (Rey), Dominique Brewer, D’Andria Brewer, Andrew Brewer, Hannah Bronfman, Benjamin Bronfman, Vanessa Bronfman, and Nicole Nicholson. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Giovanni, Gianna, Keishla, Angel, Cecil IIII, Nikita, De’cole,
Dazai, and Devonte. She was loved and cared for by many other family and friends. Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Norfleet, her sons, Cecil M. Brewer and Terrance Brewer, and her grandson, Cecil M. Brewer III.
