  1. Dear Hicks Family: May the God of ‘everlasting comfort’ be with your family during this time of deep sorrow (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17). Losing a loved one in death is devastating. And it may feel comforting to give our loved ones wings and wish them into heaven, but what does the Holy Bible say about what happens to us when we die? If it is a book from Almighty God it should tell us?…… Let me put your mind at ease, the Holy Bible does tell us what happen to us when we die. The answer is right in front of our eyes, and so crystal clear that most people completely miss it. Brace yourself, it isn’t what most of us have been taught to believe…… At Genesis 2:17 Almighty God warned Adam and Eve of the consequences of disobedience. God told them “But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will certainly die.” Adam and Eve were familiar with the idea of death, having seen animals die in the Garden of Eden. But, Adam and Eve chose to listen to God’s adversary, Satan the Devil. Satan made it appear as though a serpent could speak… much like what a ventriloquist would do today with a puppet (Genesis 3:1-5 & Revelation 12:9). After the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve, God tells us what happened next. After pronouncing judgment on the Serpent/Satan, (Genesis 3:14, 15). Almighty God next tells Eve “To the woman he said: “I will greatly increase the pain of your pregnancy; in pain you will give birth to children, and your longing will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.” (Genesis 3:16). Then Almighty God turns his attention to Adam and says: “And to Adam he said: “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate from the tree concerning which I gave you this command, ‘You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground on your account. In pain you will eat its produce all the days of your life.  It will grow thorns and thistles for you, and you must eat the vegetation of the field. In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you RETURN TO THE GROUND, FOR OUT OF IT YOU WERE TAKEN. FOR DUST YOU ARE AND TO DUST YOU WILL RETURN.” (Genesis 3:17-19)……. There is the truth of the matter….. Our hope is in the resurrection of the dead as shown by Jesus and his first century apostles. Please get your Bible and read the following Bible accounts of resurrections that occurred by the hands of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Lazarus in John 11: 17-27 & 38-44; The widow of the city of Nain’s son at Luke 7:12–15; Jairus’ daughter at Luke 8:41, 42 & 49–56. In fact, in the forgoing Bible verses Jesus repeatedly likens death to sleep. Jesus, having been given ‘all authority in heaven and on earth’ (Matthew 28:18) will soon exercise his authority over death by raising our loved ones back to life here on earth just as easily as you would awaken a sleeping child. (Acts 24:15 & John 5:28, 29)….. This is a promise from Almighty God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2).

  4. Elder E. and Dr. B. J. Toliver
I will be ever appreciative for having experienced your humbleness and your love of God.
I learned through our brief encounters, that you are a man of faith who love and appreciate family.
    You will be greatly missed

  5. Melvin, my cousin…we grew up together and instead of cousins, we were more like brothers. There are numerous memories that I have of you, but one in particular I will always remember and that’s when you and i were taught a very valuable lesson by grandma…the time when we begged her to chew tobacco and she finally relented and made us chew it and swallow the juice. We got so drunk that we never asked again. I’ll truly miss you cuz, the younger ones are not supposed to leave before their older cousins. Love you always, thanks for the memories.

  6. Hello my brother. Words cannot explain the emptiness I feel now that you’re not here with me. I don’t understand this but I’m leaning on my Heavenly Father for understanding. Please watch over me and kiss momma for me. I love you for all eternity. Love always your baby sister Shamel.

  8. While it may be hard saying goodbye to Melvin, may you find comfort in knowing that God will soon restore endless life to all those in his perfect memory. (John 5:28,29)
