Tommie L. Jones, Sr. was born on August 26, 1958, to Ruthie Mae Johnson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

 

He received his formal education from Washington High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he was a member of the Purgolder Football Team in his junior and senior years of high school.

 

Tommie was a proud public servant and a card-carrying union member with both the AFSCME and MTEA public service unions. He began his professional career serving adolescent troubled youth at the Carmelite Home for the Boys in Wauwatosa, WI and as a paraprofessional working with students with disabilities for Milwaukee Public Schools at Pleasant View Elementary School. Tommie spent most of his professional career serving the citizens of Milwaukee County as a Juvenile Correctional Worker, retiring after twenty-two years of service in September of 2013. Tommie also enjoyed spending time with his friends, listening to good R&B and gospel music and eating at many local restaurants throughout Milwaukee. He was most proud of his church membership at the Ark of the New Covenant Church of God In Christ (COGIC) where he served on the Deacon Board and from time to time was known to sing an impromptu church solo.

 

 

Tommie L. Jones, Sr. passed away peacefully at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin surrounded by his family on March 26, 2026.  He was 67 years old.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruthie Mae Johnson, his stepfather, Warren Johnson of Milwaukee; his brothers, James A. Jones of Milwaukee, WI, Prentice E. Jones, Sr. of Brown Deer, WI, Jeffery Jones of Milwaukee, WI, and sister, Martha Ruth Thompson of Calhoun City, Mississippi.  Tommie Sr is survived by his son Tommie L. Jones, Jr. (Monica) of Washington, DC, his grandson, Cole Solomon Jones, his brother Frederick Johnson (Adrienne) of Milwaukee, WI, and several nieces and nephews.

 

 

Tommie lived many happy years, blessed with a beautiful family and a host of friends and professional colleagues throughout his years of public service. Tommie passed away after a long and courageous battle with kidney and heart failure. His memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and through all that knew and loved him dearly.
