I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Alton Townsel. I worked with him at 27th Street School for many years and consider him a friend and a mentor. He was a gentle man with deep convictions and an unparalleled devotion to our students and their families. My wife Patty and I offer our deepest sympathies to Ella and Alton’s entire family.
I had the privilege to work with and for Mr. Townsel at 27th Street School. He was a loving yet firm administrator and the staff and students were truly blessed to have known him. I am so sorry for your family’s loss, as well as Milwaukee’s.
Alton Eugene Townsel was the consummate professional.
He was an inspiration in both deed and service. His legacy will resonate for years to come and his memory will be cherished by all with whom he interacted.

Alexander Mitchell School was so lucky to have him as a leader. He gave all of us the confidence to do well. He was giving and delightful to work with. He left a void when he left.
I will always appreciate the professionalism and respect Mr. Townsel demonstrated towards my contribution as an Elementary Guidance Counselor at 27th Street Elem School, during his MPS assignment in the early 90‘’s . Besides the unparalleled experience of serving under his phenomenal administration, I observed that he truly believed in excellence. My impact on students, staff and parents was the result of Mr. Townsel’’s high standards and the protocol of maintaining
